SHOPPING TRIUMPH!!!!!
"Man has climbed Mount Everest, gone to the bottom of the ocean. He's fired rockets at the Moon, split the atom, achieved miracles in every field of human endeavour.. except crime!" -Auric Goldfinger

I think that is my new favorite quote. I need to think up some way to put it on my business cards.

In case you hadn't guessed, I watched Goldfinger last night before I went to bed (You can watch it too, streaming, by clicking the link!)...I absolutely adore that silly movie. It is Bond perfected. I must say, while Quantum of Solace was eminently watchable (and its star, Daniel Craig, eminently lickable), it still suffers from a sad lack of ejector seats!

And now, my shopping glory...
The Back Story )

Without further ado, one of my new babies:

We're not laughing WITH you, we're laughing AT you.
The feminist in me doesn't know quite how to feel. Twice today, I had problems come up and my initial instinct was to call a boy to fix it for me (plumbing issue and then computer issue). I DID call a boy, and both times, the boy was unavailable. Both times, I took a deep breath, reminded myself that I was a reasonable smart/competent woman, and ended up fixing the problem within 5 minutes...So, yay for solving the issues on my own, but BOO HISS for playing helpless little princess first.

In a separate, but related issue, I am reading a Biography of Emily Post (Emily Post: Daughter of the Gilded Age, Mistress of American Manners) it is surprisingly gripping...and also very (dare I say painfully?) me- almost as "me" as when I bought Perfumes: The Guide (which you should try before you mock! It has some fantastic writing, and is about a subject near and dear to my heart (as well as the backs of my knees)). Why, yes- I do get all of my book recs from Slate.com...why do you ask?

Finally, an amusing story from court last Friday which I have been meaning to post:

A stripper who only makes $100 a night?!?! )

Susan was invited to FIVE birthday parties this weekend :P (three of which she is attending) SHEESH! I know what the parents of the kids in HER class were doing for Valentine's Day!!!

27 Ukiyo-e, 9 Islamic, 7 Impressionist, -16 Cubist, -22 Abstract and 5 Renaissance!

Ukiyo-e (???, Ukiyo-e), "pictures of the floating world", is a genre of Japaneseand paintings produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries. it mostly featured landscapes, historic tales, theatre, and pleasure. Ukiyo is a rather impetuous urban culture that has bloomed in popularity. Although the Japanese were more strict and had many prohibitions it did not affect the rising merchant class and therefore became a floating art form that did not bind itself to the normal ideals of society.

People that chose Ukiyo-e art tend to be more simplistic yet elegant. They don't care much about new style but are comfortable in creating their own. They like the idea of living for the moment and enjoy giving and receiving pleasure. They may be more agreeable than other people and do not like to argue. They do not mind following traditions but are not afraid to move forward to experience other ideas in life. They tend to enjoy nature and the outdoors. They do not mind being more adventurous in their sexual experiences. They enjoy being popular and like being noticed. They have their own unique style of dress and of presenting themselves. They may also tend to be more business oriented or at the very least interested in money making adventures. They might make good entrepreneurs. They are progressive and adaptable.

WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't remember the last time that I actually set a goal and then achieved it...but....
ANNI AND I FINISHED THE ARMY 10-MILER! (okay, the cute (alas, baby) soldiers handing out cups at the water-station did a lot for my motivation. Still!)

Actually, Anni smoked me, but I am too ecstatic to have actually finished to be depressed about it (next year, her butt is MINE!). As late as Saturday, we were still thinking of chickening out...but when we went to pick up our packets, the energy was incredible and we decided to give it a shot.

So, without further ado:

This is what I look like from a bad angle, without any makeup )

Thanks to everyone who already sent their congrats :D I know it is sort of compliment-fishing, but I am so chuffed!!!!

I already have my outfit picked out for next year: Army 10-Miler 2009 wear :D

EDIT: in the interest of full-disclosure (and before anyone gets too impressed), I should confess that my time was 2:20 :$ (14.03 pace :$ :$ :$) ah, well- I was painfully undertrained and at least I KNOW I can do better next year!

You might be a geek if...
...while cleaning out your jewelry cabinet, you find a Time Turner, a Star Trek: TNG communicator badge AND a replica One Ring.

A plug
Some of you recall that, after [info]fearsclave mentioned the Cool Running Couch-to-5K program earlier this year, I decided to get back into running. I was posting updates for a while, but I stopped using my Nike+, so that hasn't happened in a while. I have my first big race next Sunday (the Army 10 Miler), although I fear that I'm undertrained...but ANYHOW, the point of this entry is that my minor accomplishments in running pale to non-existence in the face of what my dear friend from High School, Stacy H. has achieved. In three weeks, Stacy will be running the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco, CA. She definitely HAS trained well for the task (she got up at 7 in the morning when we were on vacation in Charleston, S.C. to run 12 miles in 85 degree weather!) and is excited about the race.

Stacy is running as part of "Team In Training". Team in Training is a running organization that raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. This cause is important to us both, because one of our very dear friends from Law School had Lymphoma (although he has finished treatment now and is doing GREAT!). Stacy is trying to raise close to $4000. At this point, she is about $1250 short of her goal. I don't expect anyone on my flist to contribute that kind of money, but if you had an extra $5 or $10, you might consider contributing to this great cause. When you make a secure online donation, you receive a letter which will document the gift for a tax deduction too.

Here is Stacy's page : http://pages.teamintraining.org/ga/nikesf08/sheineman

Thanks in advance to anyone who donates!

Hee!
If you are a fan of Gordon Ramsay (or even if you hate hit guts, but are familiar with the shows), you should find this hysterical (if you don't, then enjoy how much he looks like a baby Tom Felton):

There are two more, if interested:

American Wife
Monday night, I left my Kindle wireless connection switched on so that it could download my pre-ordered copy of American Wife the second that it went on sale.

I woke up Tuesday morning, grabbed the book, and have barely set it down since! It's one of those books that makes you resent having to shower and drive and prepare food (I've discovered that you can actually keep reading while working and eating).

If you haven't heard of it, it is a novel about a "First Lady" that is based on the life of Laura Bush...its fictionalized, but most of the broad strokes are the same. They pay a lot of attention the the car wreck incident , for example, and she's a small-town librarian who marries a politically-connected charmer (with substance-abuse issues, who finds religion). As a confirmed fan of horrible men (and fan of writing about their fictional wives), I am really loving the "can you love someone and hate what they do" issues sprinkles through it...the writing itself is lovely. When I've finished, I'll go through and point out some of the best bits.

Pre-release comments were speculating that it was a "hit-piece" on Laura Bush, but I don't think that's true at all. It doesn't seem critical, so much as curious. To the extent that Charlie Blackwell "is" George Bush, he's not being flattered, by any extent- and yet, I feel like I may be just a little bit in love with him.

In any event, I'm only 4/5 of the way through, but feel confident in recommending it!

A horrifying vision of the future

On the one hand, I am appalled.
On the other, I must salute someone who has committed to the Kirixchi persona far more completely than I ever could.

There, but for the grace of God, go I.

Seriously, OUT OF CONTROL )
